Described by its founder as a ‘destination for purveyors of otherworldly jewellery and poetic artifacts’, Molten Store in an online boutique delivering creative, yet practical pieces to the ‘style-conscious’.
Launched by Jessy Cameron and her partner, Kevin Columbu, in 2011, Molten Store stocks a selection of fashionable accoutrements from dynamic and vibrant artists, including jewellery from in-demand French-born designer Estelle Devé and emerging label Knots & Knits, and clutches sourced for its own in-house label, Molten Relic.
The store’s offerings are particularly suited to those seeking unique, trend-setting additions for their closet.
NSS Editor, Michelle, recently caught up with Jessy Cameron to find out more about her chic online venture.
Q: Tell us about the concept behind Molten Store?
A: Molten Store is a destination at which we choose goodies with our muses in mind. Our muses are those who seek beauty in everyday encounters and who delight in the sentimental, the bohemian and the obscure.
We revel in the pursuit of ineffable luxury and travel to the ends of the earth to source beautiful items to make hearts flutter.
Q: What were you doing before you founded Molten Store and what prompted you to found it?
A: Prior to launching Molten Store, I worked as a fashion publicist for a nationally acclaimed online fashion retailer. I then moved on to work as a freelance lifestyle publicist and copywriter.
Admittedly, I’ve always wanted to create my own thing. I’m a brand person (I studied advertising at university) and I love fusing subtle semantics with beautiful words to tell an intriguing story.
I also adore collecting things; I’m the girl who returns from an overseas trip with a full suitcase, and my apartment is filled with strange little finds from antique stores and flea markets.
For me, launching Molten Store was a chance to curate all those inspirations into my own little adventure.
Q: Why the name 'Molten Store'?
A: The word ‘molten’ hints at my penchant for natural stones and heavy metal accoutrement but, to be honest, it wasn’t something I had to think about intensely. The name popped into my head and just wouldn’t leave! I never entertained any other options but I’m often guided by intuition when it comes to things like that.
Q: How do you go about buying/selecting the items for your store?
A: I love treasure hunting. There's nothing better than jumping on a plane and heading overseas to find new goodies. My partner Kevin and I have travelled together to France and Indonesia, and recently returned from a stint in Hong Kong.
Travel is at the heart of what Molten Store embodies and we consider it our job to source beautiful things that mimic precious holiday souvenirs; whether it be an embellished clutch, a poetic fragrance, or a trinket bracelet.
Q: Tell me about the designers you stock. Why choose these designers for your store?
A: To maintain our proposition as a destination for unique goodies, we opt to collaborate with designers to produce exclusive ranges.
We’ve just launched a collaboration with Jasmine Dowling, a graphic designer who has garnered a cult following via Instagram on account of her whimsical, hand-written prints. She created four designs, which feature expressions that are very true to us, including ‘Chase Adventure’ and ‘You Are Something Magical’.
Over the past year we have also collaborated with Sydney jewellery label Petite Grand, accessories brand Knots & Knits, and a US-based designer named Rachel Pfeffer.
Q: List three of your favourite items currently in stock.
- Demeter’s Hawaiian Vanilla Cologne. A hint of the summer to come, I spritz this across my desk in the afternoon for a little life-is-beautiful reminder.
- Molten Relic’s Ideas & Logic Earrings. Dramatic and angular in the best of ways.
- Celeste Tesoriero’s Into the Deep Ring. Raw and multifaceted, this little number is mystically beautiful.
Q: What is the one must have item in your store no woman should be without?
A: Anything that makes your heart skip a beat. For me, it’s the Tales in Space necklace. The little star charm perfectly catches the light.
Q: Describe your personal style.
A: Considered, comfortable and playful. My style is contradictory. Embellishment is hero.
Q: Where will you be holidaying this summer season?
A: Once the chaos of Christmas has passed, I’ll be packing my bags for Paris to visit my partner’s family.
Q: Can you share with us what’s next for Molten Store?
A: I’ve just launched “Dawn is Mine” – a jewellery label of my own design. It’s been more than a year in the making and I’m excited for it to meet the world!
