DARK + DARING
Felt, feathers and fur (+ leather) featured heavily in collections displayed at both New York and London Fashion Weeks this month, strongly emphasising the creation of shape through texture.
Designers crafted their statement pieces in silhouettes ranging from semi-flowing to modern-structured, and unleashed the occasional bold colour to contrast against more predictable dark, wintery hues.
A handful of designers dared to deviate from this seemingly formulaic approach to the new season's collections; attempting to steer winter fashion onto an alternative path.
At New York Fashion Week, designer Mara Hoffman sought to warm-up the cooler temperatures of the fashion season with her eclectic mix of tribal patterns and prints, whilst at London Fashion Week, the movie franchise 'Star Wars' - strangely - became part of the fashionable set. At the PREEN by Thornton Bregazzi show, models sported ‘nerdy-cum-edgy’ Darth Vader motifs on their attire - an imaginative take on fashion, to say the least...
